Mayweather Early Life
Floyd Mayweather was named Floyd Joy Sinclair on February 24, 1977, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His father was a boxer and so was his uncle Roger Mayweather. When Floyd was very little, his father began to train him for boxing. By the age of 7, he had a custom pair of boxing gloves. Floyd began to use the Mayweather name, wanting to follow in the boxing footsteps of his family.
Not all was well in the Mayweather home. Mayweather’s father had a violent temper and worked as a drug dealer. He was sentenced to prison for dealing cocaine. Mayweather’s mother also has some issues with substance abuse.
Boxing Career
As an amateur, Mayweather found success and had a record of 84-6. He went on to the Olympic Games in 1996 won the bronze medal. After this event, he decided it was time to move on to the next level and make boxing his career.
In 1996 Mayweather went pro. In 1998 he won a match against Genaro Hernandez to win the super featherweight world title the WBC. He continued to impress his fans and the boxing elite. Mayweather moved up four weight classes and won many titles.
After winning against Ricky Hatton in 2007, Mayweather stated that he was going to retire. He stayed in retirement until 2009, when he came back and defeated Juan Manual Marquez. He continued into several other big bouts. He defeated Manny Pacquiao in 2015, which was said to be the Fight of the Century. Mayweather won with a unanimous decision.
In 2017 Mayweather went up against UFC champion Conor McGregor. They used 8-ounce gloves for this match, which was a compromise for both sports. Mayweather won this fight by TKO. With this being one of the highest-paid matches ever, Mayweather was going to retire again.
Mayweather went on to compete against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018. This was just an exhibit match, but it got Mayweather back in the ring.

Mayweather has four children. He has two sons and two daughters. He lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. When his father got out of prison, he was the manager of Mayweather’s career. While this worked out at first, they had differences. Over time Floyd Mayweather had to fire his father. He hired his uncle Roger Mayweather as his trainer and his manager.
Mayweather did not always have a smooth time outside of the ring. In 2011, he was sentenced to spend 90 days in jail on domestic violence charges and charges of harassment. He has also been arrested for violence and battery since the early 2000s.
Mayweather has not gotten married. As of 2019, he was dating the Instagram model Gallienne Nabila. It is unclear if they are engaged. In the past, he dated actress Shantel Jackson. He dated Josie Harris, who is the mother of three of his children. She died from a drug overdose.
